SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to connect to a server and carry out various tasks using a command line. The protocol is employed by many skilled users, since the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be used for lots of things based on the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the website hosting server permits it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for virtually anything - you can install software or restart specific services including the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients which permit you to employ the protocol if your laptop or computer is running a different Operating System as well. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port though lots of service providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
If the cloud hosting
package deal that you’ve selected during the signup process features SSH access as standard, you shall be able to activate this feature with a click inside your Hepsia Control Panel. If you have picked a different plan, the SSH access feature can be added through the Upgrades menu and it shall become available instantly. The information that you need to connect shall be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can also set what password to use from the same location and you will be able to modify it whenever you want. All of the commands which are permitted are listed in the Help articles that we have prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax which you should use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
SSH access is included by default with some of our semi-dedicated server
packages, while with others you can easily include it from the hosting CP if needed - even just for the current month. Either way, you are able to activate and de-activate the function with just one click from the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you may enter the password that you would like to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you can also change it as much as you require. A complete list of the commands which can be executed in a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and several examples. An extra function after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this sort of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Web Hosting
You will be able to use SSH to control your content regardless of which Linux virtual private servers
you choose when you sign up, since all of our packages offer this feature as standard. You won't need to add or allow anything manually - immediately after your website hosting server is ready and you get the Welcome email with the login information, you may connect and start working on your websites or any software you want to set up and run on the web server. You will have root-level access to the VPS and since the account will be isolated from all the other accounts on the physical hosting server, you shall be able to do anything you want with no restrictions. You can install any app you need and that will run on a Linux-based hosting server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases efficiently.
